The Mary Garden was born out of deep love that the governance and management of the Maria Institute has for Mother Mary, the mother of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Mary Garden was designed through the Maria Institute according to permaculture principles and serves primarily as a country retreat of the girls of the boarding school (institute). The Mary Garden is also an educational knowledge center where people and nature meet each other.The Mary Garden aims to be an educational knowledge center with an holistic approach, focusing on community work and sustainable living style. The garden is based on permaculture principles. There are different definitions about what permaculture is. In our view permaculture is a system based on certain natural principles that promote environmental and economic aspects in a responsible way and ensures the sustainability and balance between human and nature.
The Maria Garden contains about 7 hectares of land and a house.
The Maria Garden is primarily a retreat for the girls of the boarding school (Maria Institute). During the weekend the girls of the Instute pay a visit to the Garden. In the morning we work in the garden. Here the girls are learning from modern aquaculture and farming techniques. They are cleaning the vegetables, the bananas etc. Here in the Garden we are working on water and river management and the land become organically cultivated. Here the girls are learning how to deal with nature and the natural cycle. The Mary Garden is intended to guarantee the independence and self-sufficiency of the Maria Institute.The Mary Garden is based on the principle around sustainable living. It's a lifestyle in which the use of natural resources and respect for the welfare of the whole.
In addition, Mary Garden will share her knowledge with her target groups through workshops and trainings. The Mary Garden want to work with WWOOFERS who are experts in the field of healthy food, ecological agriculture, aquaculture / aquaponics and we would like to spread this expertise around these themes for instance with the girls of the boarding en with our visitors like school kids, teachers and people who are interested and who want to learn about permaculture. We need people all around. People/WWOOFers who want to teach others howto to plant and taking care for plants. People with experience in garden design and also those who are able to organize and carry out educational activities for young people and adults in the garden. We also want to organize practical workshops like howto put a garden together or howto take care for animals such as chickens, dogs, etc.. We are also looking for people who can give yoga lessons and to teach classes of preparing vegetarian meals.
