| The farm is 1500Ha (3300 acres) of rugged mountain wilderness directly adjoining the acclaimed Baviaanskloof Conservation Area – a Provincial Park and World Heritage Site. It has varied geographical features and natural vegetation and a small stream from where water is sourced via a gravity fed system of dams and pipes. Our main focus is on conservation of the naturally occurring fauna and flora, rehabilitation of damaged ecosystems and development of small-scale ecotourism. We also produce organic vegetables on a semi-commercial scale, maintain a small herd of free-range, veld-grazed cattle and utilise timber products from clearing of alien, invasive trees. We are a family of 5, with 2 young daughters age 9 and 7, and a toddler of 1year and live a self-reliant, subsistence life-style based on an ethos of sustainability, harmony with nature and environmental responsibility. We have a solar power system, use wood/gas for cooking, and heat water via a wood-fired boiler. We have 5 horses and ride frequently. We require help with the daily farm chores ie. feeding/caring for the animals (horses, chickens and cattle), tending vegetable garden production, vehicle and equipment maintenance etc. In addition, help is required with specific ongoing projects such as alien tree processing for fire-wood, timber production and wood-chip production for compost heaps; fencing and removal of fences as required; seasonal burning of fire-breaks and pasture; bush clearing; cutting of hiking trails etc. We provide accommodation in a separate, 2 bedroom house directly adjacent to the main homestead. The house is basic, clean and comfortable with a sitting room, bathroom and kitchen where helpers cook their own food. Some food is sourced from the farm itself – seasonal vegetables, eggs etc., and all other required food is purchased and brought in from town according to preferences and reasonable budget. We prefer to host more than one volunteer at a time (couples/friends), due to the isolated location of our farm. | |

| We offer volunteers the chance to develop new skills and experience life on our small-holding which is situated in one of the most beautiful, untouched areas of this diverse country. Peas on Earth aims to farm holistically, applying techniques of biodynamic and astrological farming to rehabilitate Mpetukop Farm, its soil and its own unique ecosystem. We do not use any chemicals or unnatural substances in our farming practices. In keeping with these goals, we have both animals and plants on the land, rotating and providing one another with a mutually beneficial ecosystem which supports a diversity of species with the aim of improving the soil for future generations. As a result of this diversity, Peas on Earth is able to offer volunteers a range of areas on which to focus their skills and efforts. Volunteers will be encouraged to participate in all aspects of life on the farm but we appreciate that some may be frightened of horses etc. and will ensure that activities are organised accordingly. The areas of activity on the farm are: 1. Horse care and equine management 2. Domestic stock management - primarily pigs and poultry 3. Fruit, Vegetable & Herb Production 4. Farm produce - including preserves, cheese, butter & herbal remedies 5. Practical skills, such as maintenance, fencing, building etc. | |

| We live on a small holding with mountain views on the border of our town in the Little Karoo of South Africa, bordering on the Garden Route. We are 1 hour away from beach. We are looking for 2 people to come and establish an organic veg and fruit garden on our property - it is imperative that you understand that you will be working on your own, and need to be confident in your skills, as we do not offer a teaching environment, our garden needs to be established. We offer accommodation at our Backpackers Lodge - Backpackers Paradise in a private room with two beds (or a double bed if needed) and shared bathroom. We also offer free wi-fi, meals will be cooked lunch everyday, breakfast and light dinner (sometimes you will have to do your own cooking like on weekends - but we will supply food) we are not vegetarian, free coffee and tea, use of bicycles and basically whatever you need as part of a fair exchange. it is a small worked area but we also have two tunnels - one still needs to be covered. We do not know much about organic farming and would like this to be set up for us, some water lines are established - dam supplies water. Pump and some pipelines in place. We have some earthworms going, and presently plant on small scale with the moon but need the garden to be established. We don't know enough and don't have enough time to dedicate to setting it all up at the moment. We basically need someone who does not need to learn, that can teach our gardener to keep things running when the volunteers leave. (if this is at all possible). Maximum period of 2 months - negotiable. | |

| We escaped city life and are on the road to self-sustainability on a farm 3 hours drive from Cape Town. It is a beautiful valley at the foot of the mountains- a little piece of heaven. Our 6 year-old son is home-schooled and Granny helps on the farm too. It is a very remote farm so ideal for those looking for peace and light (not the party scene). Volunteers have their own separate room in our workshop which sleeps 2 in a double bed. It is close to the main house. It has a covered outdoor bathroom and a mini-kitchen area. It has electricity and hot water and is very comfortable. You make your own breakfast with the bread, porridge etc provided but other meals are eaten with the family. Our meals are simple but fresh and delicious. We use as much as we can from our own veggie garden and we do occasionally buy in meat and milk. Please no smoking or drug use. Sundays are free days and Saturdays are half days. Great days to walk for miles on these lovely Autumn days. We are in the process of planting seeds in trays, planting out seedlings of winter veg and preparing for winter with chopping wood, clearing roads and waterways, cleaning seed, making preserves etc and would welcome help with these tasks. There may be the chance to learn how to use various equipment. We have 12 laying hens, 2 dogs, 4 cats and 4 semi-wild horses which you are welcome to try and tame. We understand some German and a little French and practice in these languages would be great. We go weekly to the town of Riversdale for various supplies and can collect volunteers on that day. | |

| We are a 300 hectare mountain farm part of which is a nature reserve. We have 16 ha vineyards, an olive grove, a workshop/retreat centre, and a wedding/function venue with chapel. We can accommodate about 24 in our large farmhouse and two cottages. We harvest grapes from late January to mid March, make wine during that time (8,000 bottles per year), and bottle and label all year. We pick olives about Easter and bottle olive oil in May and we produce preserved lemons, lemonade concentrate and limoncello in June/July. Our weddings occur mostly during spring and summer (September to April) once or twice a month and we host regular workshops of various kinds as well as other group bookings, functions and conferences throughout the year. Our website www.fynbosestate.co.za has information. Woofers can expect good accommodation, good food and a mountain Nature Reserve to play in. The work is of a varied nature and we will make sure they have time to go to Cape Town and other places. There is generally a stream of very different people through the farm so our volunteers have a great time. We have a variety of other projects starting in the next year - honeybush tea, and perhaps saffron (we wont know until next April if that one will work). | |

| I have been on our farm for 3 years and are developing it into a self sustainable organic paradise. Our homestead is about 1 hectare in size and we have approx 10Ha under lucern with flood irrigation and approx 1 ha of homestead that is now about 75% developed. The balance of the farm is river wilderness and great for walks in nature. We can take you to our very own bushmen paintings. We also have ancient fossils in the river bed a few km away. Our valley has an extremely low crime incidence. The farm is less than 50km from Ladismith town, less than 350km from Cape Town. We also use liquid fertilisers and enhance vermicast to produce a tea which is super high in microbial activity. Future projeccts include;---- new vegetable gardens, building a chicken coop, food forest, bird netting, I am Permaculture Designer and have implemented those design principles in the development of my Homestead. I am passionate about sharing my knowledge and teaching others to do the same in their lives wherever the live in the world. I love creating soil for vegetables which is high in microbes and soil life and the major task is to produce organically rich, healthy living soil. Healthy living soil is what makes me excited. I love to teach and when you leave our farm you will - benefit from exposure to a wide variety of farming activities. - understand Permaculture design principles - be able to create your own organically based microbe rich vegetable garden - learn how to have your own wormery - know all about compost making - understand solar and wind power We value honesty and the peace found in nature. Please call or email us and we will send more information. | |

| A historical village at the foot of the Langeberg mountains. We have a small plot beneath the mountain, that lays along a canal built by missionaries in the 18th centuary. Next to our plot is a small piece of state land which we are busy restoring from alien trees and plants invasion. We both love circus skills like acrobatics, juggling, tight rope walking and story telling, and would like to one day hold workshops in the village for folks to join. Our inspiration is permaculture, bio-dynamics and natural farming techniques of Masanobu Fukuoku. The magical village of Zuurbraak lies in two micro climates and so an abundance of plants grow here. The beautiful Buffeljags river runs through the village. There are a few small shops in the village, most of the main supplies come from Swellendam. The village in on one of South Africa most loved scenic roads, that links up to Barrydale in the klein karoo and Route 62. There tasks for folks of all levels, from compost making, seed saving and alien clearing, to clay seed balls and basket weaving. We have some very interesting and knowledgable crafts people living in the village with us. We are non meat eaters, and enjoy eating healthy positively charged food. Accommodation for now is camping and rustic but comfortable. All folks with genuine interest and love for mother earth and timeless ways of being are welcome. | |

| Remote down-to-earth farm, once used for agriculture, now a retreat for rat race refugees, a place for people to reconnect with nature and themselves. We are off-grid (no electricity), with plenty of candlepower and tranquillity. Sustainable living with/in nature is our aim. Our valley has gradually been restored from a working farm to pure nature with indigenous and wild animal - plus our chicken, cats and border collies. WWOOF work (6h per day / 5-6days a week) will consist of hiking trail building and maintaining, organic/permaculture gardening, field and road work, some building and renovation, as well as helping with the cleaning of our guest rooms/cottages. Where possible we are all working together, BUT WWOOFers have to be able to work on their own and be comfortable with the remoteness of the farm. WWOOFer accommodation is in a private caravan or camping, depending on availability. Ideal persons: Outdoor type, age 24+ hands-on and practical experience would be a bonus. 1-4 WWOOFers at a time, min. 2 weeks but up to 6 month. We enjoy last minute applications far more than many month/ year ahead. | |
